K HAUS

K HAUS는 제주도의 작은 도시 길가에 자리 잡은 한 가족을 위한 아담한 집입니다. 설계는 단순한 하나의 덩어리에서 시작해, 이를 세 개의 독립적인 매스로 분절하는 과정을 거쳤습니다. 각각의 매스는 가족 구성원 각자를 위한 개별 공간으로 기능하며, 개인의 프라이버시와 편안함을 보장합니다. 그러나 이 집의 핵심은 중앙에 위치한 가장 큰 덩어리에 있습니다. 이 공간은 거실, 주방, 다이닝이 하나로 융합된 곳으로, 가족 모두가 자연스럽게 모여 일상을 나누고 소통할 수 있는 중심축을 이룹니다. 열린 구조와 넉넉한 공간감은 가족 간의 유대감을 강화하며, 따뜻한 분위기를 조성합니다.

제주도의 독특한 자연환경도 설계에 큰 영향을 미쳤습니다. 바람이 세차게 불고 비가 자주 내리는 날씨를 고려해, 각 매스는 박공지붕으로 설계되었습니다. 박공지붕은 비와 바람을 효과적으로 막아내며, 동시에 제주 전통 건축의 단순하면서도 강인한 미학을 반영합니다. 세 개의 매스는 서로 독립적이면서도 중앙의 공용 공간을 중심으로 조화롭게 연결됩니다. 매스와 매스가 만나는 경계는 부드럽게 다듬어져, 건물 전체가 하나의 유기적인 형태로 느껴지도록 했습니다. 외부 마감은 제주의 돌과 나무 등 자연 소재를 활용해 주변 풍경과 어우러지게 했고, 큰 창을 통해 실내에서도 제주의 하늘과 바람을 느낄 수 있도록 배려했습니다.

이 집은 단순한 주거 공간을 넘어, 가족의 삶과 제주의 자연이 공존하는 장소로 완성되었습니다. 분절된 개별 공간과 융합된 공용 공간의 조화는 가족의 개성과 공동체 의식을 동시에 담아냅니다. 제주의 거친 날씨 속에서도 단단히 뿌리내린 이 작은 주택은, 한 가족의 일상을 따뜻하게 품으며 오랜 시간 함께할 터전으로 설계되었습니다.

This house is a modest single-family residence located along a quiet street in a small town on Jeju Island. The design began with a single mass, which was then segmented into three distinct volumes. Each volume serves as a private space tailored to individual family members, ensuring personal comfort and privacy. At the heart of the home lies the largest central mass, a unified area combining the living room, kitchen, and dining space. This open, communal hub is where the family naturally gathers, fostering connection and shared moments in a warm, inviting atmosphere.

Jeju’s unique climate—marked by strong winds and frequent rain—greatly influenced the design. Each volume is capped with a gable roof, a practical choice to withstand the elements while echoing the island’s traditional architectural simplicity and resilience. Though separate, the three masses harmonize around the central space, with their boundaries softened to create a cohesive, organic form. Local materials like Jeju stone and wood blend the house into its surroundings, while large windows invite the island’s sky and breezes indoors.

More than just a dwelling, this home is a blend of family life and Jeju’s natural essence. The balance of private, segmented spaces and a fused communal area reflects both individuality and togetherness. Built to endure Jeju’s harsh weather, this small house warmly embraces its family, designed as a lasting sanctuary.
