창원은 경상도에서 대표적인 공업도시로 성장해온 도시로, 산업과 비즈니스 활동이 활발히 이루어지는 곳이다. 이에 따라 단순한 숙박 기능을 넘어, 방문객에게 도시적 편의와 품격을 동시에 제공할 수 있는 비즈니스 호텔의 수요가 꾸준히 증가하고 있다.
명서동의 중심 상업지역에 자리한 본 대지는 약 300평 규모로, 기존 6층 건물을 확장·재구성하여 지상 10층 규모의 호텔로 계획되었다. 설계 과정에서 우리는 미관지구라는 도시적 제약을 풀어내기 위해 평면의 다양성과 입면의 정돈감을 동시에 추구하였다. 그 결과, 내·외부 프로그램이 유연하게 배치되면서도 간결하고 견고한 외관을 가진 건축물이 완성되었다.
외관은 도시의 맥락 속에서 절제된 선과 면으로 구성되었으며, 베이지 톤의 라임스톤 마감재는 고급스러우면서도 안정감 있는 분위기를 연출한다. 수직적으로 반복되는 창호 디자인은 호텔로서의 위상과 품격을 강조하며, 내부 공간에 리듬감 있는 빛과 시선을 제공한다. 동시에 이는 명서동이라는 도시적 장소성에 부합하는 현대적 건축의 언어로서, 지역의 새로운 랜드마크적 존재감을 형성한다.
트루호텔은 단순한 숙박시설이 아니라, 비즈니스 도시 창원의 특성과 흐름을 담아낸 건축적 응답이다. 이 프로젝트는 기능과 미관, 그리고 도시성이라는 세 가지 조건을 조율하며, 공업도시의 중심에서 새로운 호텔 건축의 방향성을 제시하고 있다.
Changwon has grown into a representative industrial city in Gyeongsang Province, where industry and business activities are actively carried out. Accordingly, the demand for business hotels that can offer not only accommodation but also urban convenience and dignity has continued to rise.
Located in the central commercial district of Myeongseo-dong, the site covers approximately 300 pyeong. The project involved the expansion and reconfiguration of an existing six-story building into a ten-story hotel. During the design process, we sought to overcome the restrictions of the aesthetic control district by pursuing both spatial diversity in the plan and clarity in the façade expression. The result is a building that accommodates flexible programs while presenting a clean and solid urban presence.
The exterior is composed of restrained lines and surfaces that harmonize with the urban context. Beige-toned limestone cladding creates an elegant yet stable atmosphere, while the vertical rhythm of the windows emphasizes the dignity and stature of the hotel. This rhythmic façade also provides dynamic light and views within the interior, while expressing a modern architectural language befitting the commercial center of Myeongseo-dong, establishing a new landmark presence in the city.
Hotel True is more than a simple lodging facility; it is an architectural response that embodies the character and flow of Changwon as a business city. Balancing function, aesthetics, and urbanity, this project proposes a new direction for hotel architecture at the heart of an industrial metropolis.
